Diet for the Wind constitution in Tibetan medicine

In Detail

Article

In Tibetan medicine, the Wind constitution is connected with the nervous system, movement, emotional sensitivity, quick thinking and inner mobility. When Wind is balanced, a person is lively, creative, light and responsive. When Wind becomes excessive, anxiety, insomnia, scattered attention, coldness, fatigue and inner restlessness may appear.

People of the Wind type especially need a regular rhythm of life. Long fasting, skipping meals, eating in a hurry or living on dry snacks are not recommended. This constitution needs warmth, nourishment, softness and stability.

Warm, juicy, oily and nourishing dishes are suitable for Wind. Sour and salty tastes are considered favourable, and moderately sweet food may also be helpful. Such food calms excessive movement and gives the body a stronger sense of grounding.

Warming foods are often recommended, along with honey instead of sugar, beef or lamb, and aromatic spices. Ginger, garlic, onion, nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, coriander, cardamom and cumin may all support this type of diet.

Cold drinks, large amounts of raw vegetables and fruits, very light or rough food, bitter taste, eating on the run and dry sandwich-style meals are unfavourable. Coffee should not be abused, because it may further stimulate the nervous system.

The atmosphere of eating is also important. It is better to eat calmly, at the same time each day, without a phone, television or stressful conversations. Food should not only feed the body, but also calm the nervous system.

The purpose of the Wind diet is to bring warmth, stability and inner calm. When food becomes regular, warm and nourishing enough, Wind gradually settles, and the person may feel more focused, grounded and emotionally balanced.
